Life Lately

Hello friends and family! I know things have been quiet for a while (let’s be honest, it has been over a year!) For that I apologize, sometimes things such as blogging need to take a back burner to life. However, I am really excited to announce all of the recent changes for our little family. In my last post, we had just welcomed little Lucy into the world. Today, she’s a walking, talking (sorta), lovable toddler.

A year ago we lived in Washington state and we had our own house. Today? We live in Virginia, own 11 acres in “horse country”, are embarking on a custom build and live in the basement of our relatives home. Yes, life has changed for us and drastically.

In June, we came to visit family in Virginia. We only spent a brief amount of time here but immediately fell in love. Somewhere between driving the rural country roads and exploring the small town centers we knew this is somewhere we could see ourselves settling down. Then it happened, after flying back home to Washington, we found it. We searched online for a lot of land to potentially call our home and it was instantaneous. Our first time actually seeing it in person? The day we signed the paperwork. We sold our home (in 48 hours), packed our things and relocated 2K+ miles leaving the majority of our friends and loved ones behind.

Yes, things moved really quickly, and yes, it probably looks absolutely crazy. It also was not easy and there has been an adjustment period. We definitely miss our family, our favorite spots to go and play and the comfort of having our own home. But this is where we are, our new adventure and our challenge to grow and explore in a very new environment. I cannot wait to begin documenting the build, the farm and our lives here in Virginia.

Happy to be back in the blogging world!

AND THEN THERE WERE FOUR…

Naturally, true to your Arthur/Rushing heritage, you were five days late. You and your big sister already have a lot in common.

On a Wednesday, after an ultrasound and an appointment with the midwife, due to medical reasons, we were encouraged to schedule an induction. After discussing with multiple doctors we decided to schedule our visit for later that evening. We sat patiently (or as patient as one can wait in this situation), awaiting the call to tell us it was time to head to the hospital. Due to an abnormal number of recent births that week, we were bumped. We were nervous and anxious. Your dad must of called the hospital at least four times to check for availability.

Finally, what felt like days later, on Thursday afternoon, the call came. We grabbed our bags, took Sloan to Granny B’s and gave her all our hugs and kisses and said goodbye to our family of three.

We checked in at the reception desk, full of sarcasm and jokes in high spirits. We unpacked and settled into our room. Our midwife felt confident you would arrive by morning and we were eager to meet you! Again, true to your Arthur/Rushing heritage, you are stubborn and no one can rush you. Twelve hours later, and little to no changes it was time to change plans.

We walked, bounced and swayed, and we laid in our birthing pool surrounded by warm water. Eight difficult hours later, with a few alarming moments, you graced us with all 10 fingers and toes and a head full of hair.

You laid on my chest, in total content. Your father and I both with tears of happiness. After nursing you, I must have drifted off to sleep. When I woke up, I looked over to my left and saw a moment between father and daughter that will warm my heart forever. There, sat your dad, sitting cross legged, with you in arms. He stared at you for what seemed like hours with pure bliss on his face.

You weighed 6lbs and 9oz and were 19 1/4in long. We named you Lucy James. James after your great grandfathers and your papa.

You have a big sister who adores you and is such a big helper. She loves holding you and singing to you. When she walks up to you, you have the biggest smile.

Today marks two months since you came into this world. You are such a gentle soul and a blessing to our home. You are loved beyond measure.

We checked into the hospital on a Thursday, as husband and wife. We left the hospital on a Saturday with a newborn, and as a family of four.

When three of my best girls realized I was planning my baby shower on my own, they immediately put a halt to my plans and took over. And in the best way possible!!! I had a vision of exactly what I wanted. Every little detail, down to the linens on the table and how the plate wear would be set. Coordinating a baby shower for me was probably no easy feat. I am so glad to say that every little detail and taste was above and beyond my expectations.

The morning of my baby shower, I woke up, relaxed. I was able to get ready, answer a few questions here and there, come downstairs and be absolutely blown away. The shower was a combined effort of several amazing and talented women. Their hard work, care, and love shined through their perfect execution of the food, decor and setup. Our baby shower truly showcased all of the love and support we have in our lives. We know our loved ones are just as excited as we are for our newest arrival.

We had family fly in from various places, late night crafting parties, surprise naked cakes and a trunk load of gorgeous decor brought in on loan.

I would also like to thank the following companies that collaborated with me to help make this baby shower absolutely stunning:

  • Rachel Peterson from RP Imagery, thank you again and again, your photos as always are breathtaking! I am truly grateful for your work and even more your friendship!
  • Cynthia Mercer from Your Flower Friends, when you sent me the “sneak peek” photo the night before the shower I was on cloud nine. You took my vision and made it a thousand times better. You visually expressed what my words could not.
  • Neha from Green Sapling, when the plates arrived, they were perfect! I wanted the shower to have a very natural element to balance out the “pink” and I thank you for taking a chance and working with a blogger! The plates were very quality made and sturdy! I was even able to wash and reuse them!
  • Shannon from Heart Paper Scissors, the jumbo balloons and tassel garlands were a complete success! Thank you for sharing in my excitement of our newest family member! I look forward to collaborating with you again in the future!

Our due date has come and gone, but we are eagerly awaiting Lucy Jamison’s arrival!

Pregnancy is a beautiful, exciting, and wonderful experience. It also can be uncomfortable, emotional and downright exhausting.

Thank you, to PinkBlush Maternity, I have discovered a maternity clothing line that is not only comfortable and flattering, but also incredibly stylish! If you have ever been pregnant, you’ll know that trendy, affordable maternity clothes are hard to come by. When you are browsing online a lot of the stores remind you of clothing your mom would have worn (decades ago). And when you DO find the really stylish maternity clothes you might be asked to spend upwards of $100 for just one piece. You are about to have a baby, who has the funds who splurge on clothes you’ll only be wearing for a few months?

One of the many reasons I love the brand PinkBlush is that the clothes work not only for maternity, but can also be worn after pregnancy! You do not have to restrict them in your wardrobe, they clearly do not LOOK maternity. With summer, weddings and baby shower season in full bloom, PinkBlush Maternity will keep you and your bump looking and feeling great.

Today, PinkBlush Maternity and I have partnered together to give one of my readers a $75 gift card. Note to readers – they also have a non-maternity line. So all my ladies out there without a baby on the way, you have not been left out! Read below for the rules and guidelines of entering the giveaway.

Dear Daughter,

You. My darling girl, you. You are the one that instantly flooded my heart and turned my world upside down — and all for the better. You are the one who taught me what unconditional, unrestrained, and unlimited love feels like. You, my darling girl, taught me one of life’s greatest lessons, how to be a momma.

It is a bittersweet time, soon enough, you will no longer be me only child. You will no longer be my only girl. But please, always remember, you’ll always be my first.

You are the first to teach me that my needs may no longer come first. The first to show me that love at first sight does indeed exist in this world. You are the one, who I spent endless nights awake; caring for, nursing, and changing messy diapers. You are the one whose tears I first wiped and skinned knees I kissed.

With you, I had many mom fails. Like the time I set you down on the couch so I could relieve my full bladder and you rolled off the couch. Or the time you told me your tummy was upset in the car and I thought we’d get to our destination OK. It turns out your tummy really was upset and all that milk had to come out, unfortunately it came out all over you and your car seat.

You are the one who taught me I can handle anything, even sleep deprived, as long as I commit whole heartedly. You are the one who taught me that the times of happiness greatly outweigh the moments of stress.

There is no doubt that in our future, there will be times where you become frustrated and that’s OK. There will be moments where my lap is not only yours and times where my arms are shared with another. But my darling girl, always remember, you were my first and you taught me best.

love,

mommy
