recently, we decided to take a last-minute SURPRISE trip to DISNEYLAND. when i say last-minute, i do mean we bought our plane tickets the weekend before we left. we told Sloan we were going to california, to visit family, and that we were taking her to a water park. now – we did not lie. we did see family, we did go to california, and the hotel we stayed at had an amazing water park on site. we stayed at the Courtyard Anaheim Theme Park Entrance Hotel and we absolutely loved it! we spent day one in california at the water park enjoying the beautiful sunshine, which was a celebrated break from the PNW rain we had been experiencing.
since we were not going to Disneyland until day 2 of our trip, we decided to visit the Anaheim Gardenwalk which was within walking distance from our hotel. i recommend stopping by if you are in Anaheim and not spending the entire day at Disneyland. the Gardenwalk has several shopping, dining and activity locations! we dined out at Roy’s and were not disappointed!
if you are interested in saving some money on your Disneyland tickets, be sure to visit ParkSavers.
the morning had arrived – we were meeting our family in the park at 8am and Sloan still had no clue where we were going! arriving to the park early and already having our tickets in hand, there was little to no wait on admission. we took photos in front of the depot station but still had not told Sloan where we were. we waited until we had Sleeping Beauty’s Castle in sight when we finally broke the news. she had the biggest smile on her face and hugged us both with excitement!! yeah, my heart melt!
this was trip was my second time to Disneyland, i had gone once before when i was younger with my family. during this trip, i was about 15 weeks pregnant and opted out of handful of rides. even though i did not join in on all rides, i still had a lot of fun at Disneyland and California Adventure. the parades, the firework show, and the world of color all blew me away! the performances alone were well worth the trip. if you are expecting while visiting Disneyland, be sure to wear comfortable clothes and walking shoes. take lots of breaks and bring water with you! i will admit, i did take a quick nap sitting in a stroller while waiting for my family on the cars ride 🙂
Sloan doesn’t watch a lot of television, so i think meeting the characters (besides Elsa and Anna) was more for me than it was for her. when a character would come out i’d yell “look, it’s Daisy Duck!” and Sloan would respond “who is Daisy Duck?” up to this point, she hadn’t connected with many of the Disney characters that i loved and held so dear in my childhood.
both Sloan and my niece, Makenna, went on Splash Mountain. let’s just say they were not interested in going on the ride a second time. i think the only ones in our group who did indeed enjoy the ride were my husband and his brother. both of whom, could not stop laughing at the girl’s reaction to the ride.
we spent two days, bouncing between the two parks. even after two entire days, there was still a lot of rides and characters we missed! our days were long, 12+hrs, but the little ones sure did have a lot of fun!
oh, the below ride? yeah, my husband broke the ride for a good 15 minutes. it was one of the highlights of the trip.
