Last Minute DIY Mother’s Day Gift

DIY Mother's Day Gift| by

Alright friends, hopefully I am sending you a Hail Mary here. If you are a last-minute procrastinator, this post, and this project is just for you! Sunday, if you were not aware, is Mother’s day. Have you gotten her a gift? Made her a gift? Worry not! I have a DIY Mother’s Day Gift to share with you.

This project is easy, and if you happen to have kids at home, then you more than likely have a lot of the supplies lying around. If you don’t, a quick trip to Lowe’s and a craft store and you my friend, are all set!

As a mom, I know that for Mother’s Day I’d love to be pampered (hint, hint hubby!). But also, gifts that are hand-made and have meaning go a long way (every mom loves sentimental gifts – hopefully I am not generalizing here!)

So today, your Hail Mary is personalized coasters with photos of your lovely face (or kiddo’s faces for the grandma gifts out there!) on them! Trust me, they turned out cuter than I am describing. See feature photo at the start of the post!

  • hot glue gun
  • hot glue sticks
  • glue stick
  • paint brush/foam brush
  • 4×4 tiles
  • 4×4 photos that you’ve printed either at home or from Walgreens, etc.
  • furniture felt pads (small ones)
  • Mod Podge

Step 1

Place your 4×4 bottom side up and hot glue a felt pad in each corner. Be sure to remove the paper backing from the felt pads prior to gluing!

Step 2

Place your 4×4 photo face down and rub the glue stick over the entire surface, pay special attention to the ends of the photo. Once you’ve applied the glue, place the photo on the smooth (front side) surface of your 4×4 tile and press down!

Step 3

Continue step 2 for each tile and photo and let dry.

Step 4

Pour a quarter size (maybe even less) of Mod Podge on your tile (with the photo side up!) and using your foam brush (or paint brush) spread Mod Podge evenly, be sure to get the edges and sides of your tile.

Step 5

Continue step 4 for all your tiles, place them unstacked side by side (not touching!) to dry. Waiting about 15-20 minutes for the product to dry completely. They will be clear when they have fully dried! Repeat step 4 for a second coat and again, wait to dry for 15-20 minutes.

Step 6

Viola! You are all set! Wrap them in a pretty ribbon and present your gift! Mom will love it!

Luckily for me, I got my mom’s gift out of the way early. But I think I am going to go to a craft store and grab these items for my kids to make her a special, extra present. Thank you for sharing.

That’s a cute idea! It also looks very simple, which is needed for me 🙂 I love the way it looks with the ribbon tied around it at the end. Great ideas for something that mom’s will love.

This is really a cute idea. It does not look too hard to complete either. As a teacher, I could easily do this next year so the kids can take it home to their moms.

Wonderful idea. Hardest part would be picking which pictures I want to use.

These are really cute. I like DIY gifts over store bought gifts because they are more sentimental.

I dont have to worry about mother’s day gifts since my mom has passed. That said, I love this idea for gifts in general. I am definitely saving this post for future use.

I absolutely love this idea of making personalized coasters as a gift. I’m not very crafty but I think I will try to make these for Father’s Day. Thank you for the detailed instructions and sharing a gift idea that anyone would love no matter the occasion.

Magnificent, original and easy-to-incarnation idea 🙂
It can be a little bit to develop and provide wall mount 🙂

Nice idea. Personally, I prefer gifts like this. It’s personalize and it’s made by the hand of the giver, which means, there’s an effort. Thanks for sharing this nice idea.

I love making photo coasters for gifts. I am going to be doing some with pictures for my sister. My niece is 4 months old and I want to do a coaster for each month between now and her 1st birthday. They are such a unique gift and everyone loves them.

I absolutely love this gift idea! I was recently put on to mod podge by a friend and I want to use it for so many different things, lol. I know Mother’s Day passed, but I might just make this to give to a friend as a little late gift. Thanks for sharing! 🙂
